What are the Physiotherapist's Qualifications?

Austin Wiehahn is a Chartered Physiotherapist and holds a Bachelors Degree in Physiotherapy from the University of South Australia. Several years ago he specialised in Sports Physiotherapy gaining a Masters Degree in Musculoskeletal & Sports Physiotherapy in Australia.

Austin is a member of:

  • the Manipulation Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) www.macpweb.org . The MACP is recognised as the Specialist Manipulative Therapy group by the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manual Therapists (IFOMT).
  • The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Occupation Health & Ergonomics (ACPOHE)- www.acpohe.org.uk which is a specialist interest group recognised by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP- www.csp.org.uk).
  • The Health Professions Council (HPC). It should be noted that the term 'Physiotherapist' is a protected title. All physiotherapists must be registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC).You can check on the following website (www.hpc-uk.org/to see whether your physiotherapist is indeed registered

Currently Austin works at the University of Hertfordshire (www.herts.ac.uk), lecturing part-time on the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Physiotherapy Programs. His interest areas include the shoulder, biomechanics and knee pathologies. In addition to the lecturing he also co-ordinates and examines Masters students in their clinical examinations. He lives in Girton, Cambridge next door to the Girton Physiotherapy Clinic.

Is the Clinic recognised by Private Medical Insurance Companies?

Yes. Austin and the Girton Physiotherapy Clinic in Cambridge are recognised by BUPA, WPA, Norwich Union, AXA, PPP and several other Healthcare Companies including return to work companies.

Do I need a Referral Letter before attending?

If you are funded by a Private Medical Insurance Company it is best to phone the company to find out if this is necessary before making an appointment. Not all insurance companies necessitate a referral.

For those who are self-funding a referral letter is not necessary.
